As someone who did not grow up in a family that was overweight/obese, trust me...they eat worse and they say really hateful things about fat people. Your worst fears are true. People are so deeply insecure about themselves that weight is quite possibly the easiest thing to make fun of.
I was one of those people who ate copious amounts of food to be where I was pre-surgery. I realize not all of you did, but the way I ate, I really should have been heavier.
However, my brother who was always skinny and always ate junk food growing up and still does...its finally catching up with his health. He is currently on cholesterol and blood pressure medication. He's 6'2", 180, definitely not fat...but poor health for someone who is 26 y/o. So no...I dont think that people can get away with this behavior for the rest of their lives without it impacting them with either their weight or their health.
