Hi guys!  Do any of you wear a medical alert ID like a bracelet>  It seems like a good idea.  If you have one, or if you want one, what would you put on it?

My recent trip to the ER got me thinking about this.

I've heard people say that they have...
No blind NG's
No NSAID's
No dextrose or (sugar products)

Just some of the things I've heard mentioned...I would think it would be a good idea to have one post-op

Melody,

What is a blind NG?

No blind NG means that they should not put a nasogastric tube in blind. If we require a nasogastric tube they have to do it with a endoscope so they can visualize where the tube is. They could rupture our pouch by doing it the usual way. (which is blind)

Hey,
Dextrose shouldn't be an issue if given IV unless someone has insulin/glucose problems.  Orally, yeah, you need low sugar foods... but if you can eat, then you can convey that to them directly...

someone posted a really good link not to long ago with medic IDs but with flair... they had some awesome dog tag medic ids...  if anyone has that link would they mind re posting it here

I had my pre-op class today and I to started thinking about the need for one.

I'm more concerned with being scoped

Thanks so much for the link!  I just ordered a bracelet with the following engraved on it:

My name
RNY on 12/29/2008
No NSAIDs - No Sugar
No Blind NG

I even ordered the gastric bypass "Skinny Pants" charm to hang on it!

I've been thinking about getting one of these for a while.  So glad I came across this thread... and your reply.  Thanks again!

No problem!  I'm glad I could help!  I have been so happy with my bracelet and am amazed at how durable it is!  I hope you like yours!
