Ok so after I gained a bunch of weight 3 years ago my period went bye-bye. Well, now that I have lost weight it started again.

It started Thursday and I am still on it, now I would expect that except that I am completely soaking super absorbant tampons about 1 1/2 hours. With lots of clots (and it looks like some tissue)

I am going to see the doc, but I wanted to know if anyone has had this kind of experience? I just don't want to go and they be like you are so silly this is normal you are an idiot (even if I am).

Soaking a super tampon in an hour and lots of clots is not normal.  Go see your OB/Gyn.

If you are concerned I would definitely call, It is normal for your cycle to be effected by weight loss because of the hormones being released  from your fat cells...but excessive bleeding should not be ignored.

I am going to agree, see your OB/GYN.

But just to let you know, when I got really big I would have a period every 4-5 months, and when it came it was horrendous, heavy for 3 days and clots from heck.

Since 2 months post op I have been regular.  The first one was really bad but has gotten better over time.  My thoughts is all that stuff built up from not menstating is being release.

But, better safe then sorry.  See your doctor.

Thanks guys. I called. I will be seeing them tomorrow (earliest appointment) but if it gets worse I am, of course to go to the ER.

Definitely not normal.  Definitely need to see someone.  Definitely needs to be like now and not later.  Could be actually that you have been unknowingly pregnant and this is a miscarriage (if this is a possibility) so this might need to be addressed very soon.  I'm praying for you.  Blood loss in a large quantity is never normal and you will never be looked at as an idiot.  In fact any new development like that should always be addressed.

Before surgery, my periods were like clockwork and lasted about 5 days with Day 2 being the day from hell.  Since surgery, my periods have been much heavier with way more clots, and hence more cramping.  Nothing that would concern me though.

I  hope you get the answers that you seek.

I am not a nurse, but I went through what you describe.  In my case - it was very normal, but very unpleasant.  - I had similar symptoms for 3-6 years.  Some worse, some better.  My period lasted 7-10 days, with 3-5 days were are heavy as you describe.  Normal - yes. Scary - yes. I was and I am still in perimenapouse.  The heavy bleeding made me tired, very weak.
Finally - my doc performed endometrial ablation, and now my periods are 3-5 days long, very light (light napkin- pantie liner,  needed) .

Here is what I found out (research):

Depends how old you are, or other factors (like not having period for a few months, years) - Estrogen dominance may create, thick, very heavy uterine lining, and when this lining starts shedding (period) you may see what you see.   Finally - your body is trying to discard layers upon layers of endomentrial tissue... unfortunately - that may repeat itself month after month.

I would suggest extra iron, extra vitamins...
