Carb Comas
Anyway... I tried some this morning and within 20 minutes got hit with the worst carb coma.
Is there anything we can do to combat carb comas?
I just assumed whole grain oats = complex carbs... but holy moly I've never been hit with a carb coma this bad.... It's all I can do to get my hands to type this post.
I won't be eating that granola any time soon (and I barely added 1/2 cup to my yogurt)
RNY 6/16/09 - Last weighed 10/27/2011 weighed 151 lost 52 pounds 66% toward personal goal of 125, six pounds from unofficial unpretentious goal of 145lbs......basically very happy. boo-rah, RNY!
I had a carb coma so bad one time, I actually was fighting my eyes closing when driving my son to school in rush hour traffic. I really thought I was gonna have to pull off the road.
It's like nothing else I have ever experienced except low sugar (hypoglycemic) pass out.
Very frightening!!

It seems you are really struggling with the carbs and side effects. Does your doctor have an RD that you can work with (I think from other posts you are working with your doctor on some vit/mineral deficiencies, so you are dealing with a lot).
Do you track your food and the effects? What does a typical day look like? There's a lot of people on here that maybe could help with suggestions.

Hi.
I'm working with my gastro pcp and hematologist says vitamin / mineral stuff.
I still have big appetite (or I don't get FULL) so I keep eating but nothing sticks. I'm skinny.
Once eat so much body throws the blood to the guy and requires tremendous benergy to digest so I go nite nite. Lol.
Like 4 hrs in coma like sleep.
Seems eating the symptoms are worse.
I'm trying now to eat meat eggs cheese nuts and limited vegetables no grains no sugar.
Seems better but dunno yet.
I just can believe how sensitive my system seems to be to different food.
What do you mean I can eat 1 slice of bread?
Grrrrr.

You will definitely feel fuller longer on high density proteins; I will occasionally eat toast, but higher fiber/lower carb and combined with protein (usually cheese or PB). Keep track of what you are eating and provide the details, I'm sure there are people that can help troubleshoot it. It's about balance and finding what works for you. If you are check into the daily menu thread, you'll see so many varieties of approaches.
If you struggle with qty, measure everything, eat an appropriate portion...give it some time...and then you can have more. Also make sure you're not eating and drinking at the same time, that moves food through faster and so you aren't as full as long, from what I understand.
Good luck!
