Rest in Peace Fat Nikki (obituary of my former self)
This is one of those things you can only do if you are ready to do it. I am feeling the calling to “bury" my former fat identity for several reasons:
#1 – Nikki of present is VASTLY different than ye olde “fat Nikki." I have different goals, joys, attitudes, etc.
#2 – a good deal of the people I deal with now never knew me as “fat Nikki" (and the ones who did know me as fat Nikki are even fuzzy about what she was like aside from what she looked like)
#3 – Carrying the “weight" of being the “formerly obese person" is keeping me from moving forward at the pace I want to.
So I am writing an obituary for her. She is dead. We remember her. We honor her. She no longer lives here.
If you are ready to do so, I invite you to do the same.
Fat Nikki - RIP
Fat Nikki was born on December 4, 1976 to two normal sized parents. She was born big at 9 lbs. 3.5 oz and remained big throughout her life.
As a child she turned to food mostly to cope with physical abuse and drug addiction at home. Life was always changing around her. Her parents would move her from place to place and every day brought new terrors of being beaten with objects and hands. Food brought a pleasure that was reliable and some days it was her only joy.
Eventually, however, food became her slaveowner. She gave more credence to it than anything else in her life, including her own hygiene. She was lost in it and did not know how to escape. Eventually she turned to weight loss surgery and stepped aside so that a new Nikki could emerge.
The end of fat Nikki’s life began on January 8, 2008. Since then fat Nikki has diminished more and more until now she is such a small part of new Nikki’s psyche that we can now lay her to rest. She is always there and we always remember her, but it is time to let her rest.
She leaves to mourn many beloved but unhealthy foods and behaviors, as well as a host of plus sizes in clothing.
While we are grateful for her life, we are equally grateful for her passing so that new life can be enjoyed.
