I know I am doing wrong but why can't I stop

I have been trying not to come to the board and complain because my life is good.  I am really going through at home right now because my family has grown from four to eight.  One of my family members that now lives with me is my FIL who is disabled and in a wheel chair like Christopher Reed was in.  I figured this situation would be hard but is also stressful.  One stress being all the added junk food that is being brought in to my house on the regular by my SIL and her children.  I laided in my bed last night and just thought of all the food I have been sampling since they have been at my home which I would not even be thinking about.  Why can't I control myself.  I workout, get my water in, take my vitamins but I can not seem to pass by the newly added temptations.  The scale is reflecting this also.  Even know I am not gaining I am not really losing either.  So I try to go walking or bike riding to get away from all the yummy  temptations but I find myself sampling all night long on things I should leave alone.  Then I have my SIL and husband constantly giving me diet advice as they stuff their faces.  I am very frustrated I am not doing better any advice how to handle this situation with out making it worse would be appreciated.  I could ask them not to bring the food in my home but I would need my husband support on that and his slogan is he is not on a diet.

Maybe they should ALL move out!?!?  Seriously, they need to support you on this.  They can keep their junk away from your sight and eat it when you are not around. NO, they are not on a diet but neigther are you and junk food doesn't belong in anyone's mouths!  Shame on them for not being supportive of your efforts. Stand up for yourself and make them hide that crap.  They don't need to do it in front of you, that's just mean.

You seem to be under a lot of stress.  It's probably emotional eating, you don't really want it but, food sometimes helps stuff those feelings.   Maybe you could ask them to put the food somewhere that you will not be able to see it.  It is your home afterall.  It's good that you are getting out riding your bike exercise helps sometimes with stress.

Good luck to you, you have done fantastic, over 100lbs lost.  Congrats.

It's your home and you are a food addict.  I'm a cocaine addict...(used to be) but hubby would never tempt me by bringing drugs in the house...I traded in cocaine for food and that's how I got as big as a house.

Tell your sister in law if she is bringing it in, that you can't have that stuff in your home.  I didn't know that being handicapped gave you special permission to eat crap.  You can still be disabled and happy by eating healthy ~ right?

You have rewired your body to try to get a handle on your eating disorder...please speak up for yourself!!  Put your foot down.  And whether hubby sings his slogan or not...you're his better half and what you do, he is supposed to back you and help..... and besides the way we eat is NOT a diet, it's a life style change...NO CRAP eating!

You can have a treat from time to time but not everyday at anytime...it all goes into the big picture of maintaining and counting your calories.

Hang in there sweetie!!

Thank you for your advice and I am definitely a recovering food addict.  So I will let them know my drug of choice was junk and it does not need to be put in my face daily.  So no more candy and chips in my house.

You have to pick your fights carefully when you have several generations under your roof.

Currently I have 3 generations in my home. I have to deal with junk food and yep, I'm a food addict. I have them put the crappy foods in the upper cupboard in the hallway (not in my kitchen). If I want said crappy food I have to walk a ways to get it. It's not right in my reach.

We are responsible for what we put in our mouths. Emotional eating sometimes wins with me. But if I cave in, I'm not eating a lot of it, just a small amount.

Hard to deal with? Yes it is. Kudo's for you if you decide to put your foot down and demand no junk food in the house.

My husband has that same mentality....he's not the one who had surgery to lose weight.  I live with hubby and 3 almost - grown boys. This is what I had to do:

1) I stopped grocery shopping for them. I keep the house stocked with the "must haves" - milk, bread, eggs, stuff for healthy meals, but as far as snacks, sodas, etc, they're on their own.

2)  I have my own shelves in the frig, freezer and pantry.

3)  I cook healthy foods - period. Take it or leave it. Being men, they may grumble about it, but they are way too lazy (and cheap) to cook something else!

4)  I will leave the room or ask them to leave a room if they're eating junk and I just can't take it.

Some people may feel that I've compromised too much or that I've asked my family to compromise too much. The bottom line is that you have to figure out what works for you and yours.
