Mixing hot drinks with protein powder
I was paying attention when y'all told me that you have to mix the protein powder with a little bit of cold or room temperature water before you add ho****er. But I made a hot coffee drink yesterday, and even though I mixed it to a smooth paste with cool water first, after I added the ho****er it kinda formed these blobs of congealed goo. Ick! How do I prevent that?
I drink no sugar added hot chocolate with chocolate protein powder all the time and don't have any problems. I also drink Pam T's protein chai tea everyday without a problem.
I add my dry ingrediants to my cup and put enough room temperature water in it to make it liquidy (not a paste) then I add a little of the ho****er at first and stir then add the rest. If I add cold or hot liquids into the powder it causes it to clump so I always use room temperature at first. I hope this helps. Debi

Did you add the ho****er SLOWLY? When you do it the manual way in the mug, you have to add a bit of ho****er, stir, stir, stir... add a bit more ho****er, stir, stir, stir... etc. When I make my protein coffee in my Kuerig coffeemaker (which does one mug at a time) I am constantly stiring the mug of coffee as it is brewing and the hot coffee is filling the mug.
I personally do the whole thing in a blender cuz I'm lazy. Just put the protein powder and splash of cold water in the blender jar, turn it on and let it whirl for a moment... then slowly add the ho****er from the tea kettle while the blender is still going. Works every time for me.
HOWEVER -- remember that some protein powders just don't work in hot beverages. Even though I love Nectar Cappuccino, I can not get it to mix into a hot drink no matter how many different times I try it. I use Body Fortress and it works fine with boiling water every morning.
