I have surgery tomorrow and have just finished drinking almost a gallon of  GO-LYTLY to "clean" things out.  Did anyone else out there have to drink this stuff?  I don't remember hearing anyone mentioning it.  Just curious.

Every surgeon is different. I have seen on these boards different Drs requiring different preps. Mine had me doing medifast until the day before then clear liquids (not red) also he wanted me to do enemas for the 3 days before.

I had to sip this stuff every ten minutes until it was gone the day before surgery. I couldn't get thru the whole jug. I was running to the washroom every 10 minutes. This stuff does clean u out though.

No, my Doc didn't require a clean out. 48 hours clear fluids was what was required.

Yes, I had to drink it, but not the whole gallon.  I think I was required to drink four 8 oz glasses.  After the first glass, I just finished the rest sitting on the toilet with a book because I was worried I was going to have an accident.

Yes, my wife had to drink a gallon of that stuff. It was during her 2nd readmission to the hospital, with possible surgery to see why she hadn't gone #2 for over 10 days.  It was about 18 hours later, 2 hours before the scheduled surgery, when "the dam broke" and surgery was cancelled.   DAVE

I had to do Milk of Magnesium for 2 days, protein shakes 2 days before and clear liquids on the final day before surgery. GOOD LUCK on your surgery tomorrow. I can't wait to go to sleep and wake up and shower and go to the hospital tomorrow.

I pray all the surgeries go well tomorrow, speedy recovery, and good health to everyone.

I had to down 2 bottles of magnesium citrate in a 4 hour period.

That was the most vile stuff I've ever tasted....and then the vileness continued for hours afterward.

I consider myself very lucky, my doc only required clear liquids 24 hours prior to surgery. But....when I had a colonscopy a few months ago I had to do the mag citrate routine. Oh my goodness that was an experience!!! I took 10 hours to do its "magic." Nothing could mask the taste no matter what is suggested!!
