Jackson Pratt Drain
I feel your pain. I had my J-P drain for a week post-op and couldn't get comfortable no matter what I did. The Lortab elixir they gave me just put me to sleep instead of making my pain tolerable. If you're having a problems with getting out of bed, try to roll onto your shoulder opposite where the drain is and push yourself up with your hand into the mattress. This is pretty effective and less painful for most people. Tomorrow you will be some much better when the drain is out. That was the only thing that helped me!!!!! Hang in there. Relief is on the way. Bea
I had a similar problem. Everything was going really well until day 8 when the drain area started to really hurt. I had my appointment the next day anyway, and so I just waited since there were no bad signs. It wasn't swollen or full of puss and it was draining small amounts and almost clear. When I got to the doc, his conclusion was "Yup. Your body's over it." He took it out and it felt better instantly. It is still the one incision that is healing, since I think the drain put it about a week behind the others. I just took more pain meds and tried to sleep.
My JP drain was only a minor annoyance until about Day 4, when I rolled over on it and tugged really hard on the sutures. The pain was as intense as any I'd felt since the surgery. Pain meds and warm compressed helped a little, but getting up and moving was still impossible, so I moved from my bed to the recliner and that helped. At least I was able to get up and walk every couple hours. Took me about 48 hours to completely recover once the drain was removed, and the "bullet hole" was much slower to heal than my other incisions.
