Do they really help with constipation?  What is the best and least expensive kind to use?

They help me.  I use sustenex and pay about 14 bucks for a box.  They also help boost your immune system.

I drink one Danactive Light daily (first thing in the morning) and have not had any constipation since surgery.  Now I can't say that's the reason, but it sure hasn't hurt me.  I used probiotics long before WLS.  I think they definitely add, much needed good bacteria, to our diets.

I was dealing with severe constipation due to being put on an iron pill and my doc suggested taking magnesium chloride. You can find it at Walgreens, its called slow-mag, costs about 14 dollars. I take 2 every night before bed on an empty stomach and they work for me and you can take up to 4 a day if needed. You can also take this everyday because any extra is excreted in urine.

There is some research that indicates probiotics (in the form of yogurt and/or supplements) are beneficial to RNY patients. I've read articles that indicate almost 25% more weight loss and fewer vitamin deficiencies (http://www.meltingmama.net/wls/2009/07/probiotics-help-gastricbypass-patients-lose-weight-more-quickly.html I think I also read a study from Harvard, but I can't find it right now)! Can't go wrong with that. I was just looking at probiotics tonight... I was going to try "NOW® Gr8-Dophilus". http://www.allstarhealth.com/f/now-gr8-dophilus.htm NOW is a readily available brand that you should be able to find in your local health food store or online.
