gotta get something besides this ambien!
I did not like Ambien because I had two incidents with auditory hallucinations (NOT good for someone with PTSD!), but really liked Lunesta (and the Lunesta folks seem to give every doc out there some free samples for them to giove to patients!), so you might try that. There's also less chance of addiction with those than with anxiolytics like Ativan...

Yes, they can both cause hallucinations... but I had none with the Lunesta (and DID with the Ambien)... but maybe this is like the Isopure vs. Cytomax thing.... and maybe you SHOULDN'T try the Lunesta, LOL!

No, it's not a common side effect but it IS a scary one. I gave the Ambien a second chance, but when I had the hallucinations the second time (in 3 nights of taking it), I did exactly what you mentioned... it went straight into the trash.

I took some ambien last night. It's my "last resort" and only when I can sleep for eight hours (which isn't usually the case). It affected me a lot less than it had before. I could see it becoming useless over time.
From six months postop, until 29 months postop, I had absolutely IMPOSSIBLE insomnia. There wasn't a night I actually slept if I didn't take a sleep aid. Then I spent four months sleeping like a baby (I was overworked and overstressed). Now I'm no longer overworked, and exhausted so I'm again not sleeping.

I tried every sleeping pill they have and a few others that usually work for anxiety. Finally my doctor gave me temazepam it's an older drug so doctors don't always think to prescribe it before drugs like ambien or lunesta but it is amazing. It puts me right into a natural sleep and let's me sleep all night I never feel groggy even if I have to wake up earlier then expected. The sleep is great and waking up feels even better.
