Question for the old pros. Am I finished losing weight?
I am 4 months pot RNY and have lost 83 pounds. But, I want to make it to 100. I have been at 220 for a few weeks and I am afraid that I have screwed up my pouch. Please tell me that I can lose more and this is just a stall. Any info you guys can give would be a great gift to me!
Stay thirsty my friends,
Felix
No, at four months post op you're probably not done losing weight and I've met some horrible post-op eaters who managed not to "screw up their pouches" but praytell...why do you think you've screwed yours up?

P.S. It's a stall. Don't let it screw with you.
Remember, protein first, vegetables next then if you have room you can have some fruit or starchy food. Make sure you are getting in at least 64 oz of water. No drinking with your meals and 30 minutes after. And of course, exercise.
You can do it.
It helps me to check my ketones...several fat doctors ("Bariatric Specialists" ) taught me this years ago in some of the many diets I have been on. I am not diabetic, but the ketone sticks are found at places like Walmart with the diabetic supplies. When I am in ketosis, I am burning fat even if the scale isn't moving. You would want to check with your doctor first, we are all different! I am very careful with my calories, and I track everything at www.myfitnesspal.com Just last week I had only had about 500 calories, but I had two packages of 70 calories each graham crackers, just 140 calories, but it almost put me out of ketosis...I am very sensitive to sugar! If I stay in moderate to large ketosis range I do lose weight even if the scale doesn't move everyday. You are not through losing weight.

Who are you calling "old", LOL!??!?
Quick answer: Have you EVER seen a post foom anyone here who stopped losing weight at 4 months out? No.
Unless you are routinely eating too much food at one sitting or drinking with a full meal (both of which can potentially stretch the stoma), you have not "screwed up" anything. This is not directed at you, just a comment in general becasue it somes up SO much here... I don't know why people insist on being so afraid that normal eating will "stretch" or "ruin" or "break" their pouches! Are surgeons really warning them, as a scare tactic, that this might happen?!? Much older versions of the RNY used more of the fundus (which is a bit stretchier part of the stomach) to make the pouch, but modern RNYs make the pouch from the area just below where the esophagus joins and into the beginning of the lesser curvature of the stomach (one of the least stretchy parts of the stomach), so it takes a LOT to stretch it. It will expand (GROW, not stretch) over time... as it is supposed to... otherwise we would all starve to death eating only 2 ounces of food at a time... The stoma WILL stretch out if you continually eat too much, which means food will empty more quickly from the pouch and you may feel hungry sooner, but youw ill still have the restriction of the pouch.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Thanks for all the feedback!! I am not drinking while eating and currently walk 1 mile each evening. I also play tennis several times a week. So, I think I am on track. It is just that I lost 83 pounds so fast. Now they seem to be dropping slower. Thanks once again, I guess I just needed to hear these things from other folks who have had the same experience.
As always, stay thirsty my friends.
