I've heard that some people have issues drinking milk after RNY. I'm not really sure why this happens but am starting to wonder if I'm one of those people.  How did you know that you had issues with milk after your surgery? What were your symptoms? I've never had any issues before but I'm staring to wonder if the bloating and gas I'm feeling is from the skim milk I use with my shakes and SF pudding, etc. I love milk and surely hope this isn't what I'm experiencing. I will be sooooo sad if I have to switch!

Bloating and gas could be a sign of lactose intolerance. I was lactose intolerant after my first WLS but since my revision I am not. You can try cutting it out and seeing if that helps. If you are lactose intolerant then you can always use lactaid milk or pills or you could substitute almond, soy or coconut milk for the skimmed milk. I use almond milk for my shakes because I like the taste and texture.

Most people get over it though....(I haven't)

I do cheese and yoghurt without issue though.... just straight up milk that doesn't work for me.

Waaaaaaaaaaahhhh! Those are the symptoms I'm having (minus the diarrhea...I'm completely opposite!) Could it just be possible that its from the gas they used during surgery still? I'm only 8 days post op. Plus.. since I'm constipated...maybe it's just that??? I'm hoping for anything BUT lactose intolerant if you can't tell! hahaha

cut out the milk and see what happens.

If you get better, then I'd say skip milk products for the next few weeks to a month, then try again to see what it is like.

A note, i ALSO dump on milk (rare) so that might have contributed to the diarrhea (though I don't usually have that as a symptom of dumping)...... combined with the intolerance it might have put me over the edge.

I had a bloating and gas a whole month aft surgery, milk or otherwise just walk around a little it will usually go away, unless u start dumping or diarrhea, I wouldn't worry about lactose intolerance.

I just jinxed myself..... Hello diarrhea! I blame you, Lady Lithia! haha just kidding! I'm staying off milk products for a day or so to see how this goes.

Lactose intolerance can actually swing both ways BM-wise depending on the food. E.G. milks, ice cream give me the runs BAD but some cheeses have given me constipation. Lactaid, lactose tablets, alternative milks (almond, soy, etc) really help avoid the pain!
