Pros & cons ~ RNY vs DS
RNY is better for GERD...... (most of the time) so I chose it. .
DS is awesome also.
If you love foods with fats.....DS all the way
If you love simple sweets simple carbohydrates, you need to change your behavior, none of he surgeries are goign to help you.
DS has better long-term stats, but many people with the RNY have great success losing all the weight adn keeping it all off.
You can regain with either.
The RNY might make you dump, and dumping might keep you from sweets. You also might get reactive hypoglycemia, but this is something you can get with both surgeries, just more common with the RNY
I suggest asking RNYers about what is great about RNY and DSers about what is great about DS..... You learn more that way. If you only ask people who had failed RNY (which is some of the DS folks) they'll paint a bleak picture. But their picture is biased. So ask people with both surgeries why THEIR surgery is awesoem and read the messages in teh different forums to see what life is like, and difficulties are like for both surgery types.
Me, if I could do it over and GERD wasn't an issue, I'd get the VSG. I believe it is the BEST surgery of them all.
