Just so you know, your doc may not know they difference.  I'm gonna give you a link to some information that might help him understand, if he's open to looking it over.  It's just that doctors specialize in medicine or surgery or whatever, not nutrition or vitamins.

Your doc won't be able to give you prescription D3 either.... and might not really be able to distinguish the difference. Overall I've heard a lot of anecdotal evidence (my own lab reports as well) that say that the DRY D3 is the best. You can get it at www.vitalady.com

Thanks for the post Kelly, very thorough information.  However, I do not take dry D3, I have been taking D3 liquigels for years, as I've been on the low side- but I took 2000iu pre-op, and now I take 5000iu two times a day post-op. My levels have been in the 90's, so no worries there.  I am probably the exception to the norm though.  But, my surgeon's office recommends D3- and the one they sell at their office in the shake bar is a liquigel as well.

I'm glad they recommend D3.  And if the liquigels work for you, stick with them.  90 is an excellent number.

I know this is about D-3, but I have a question about Iron.  I have been taking the Bariatric Advantage ones and was looking at changing to a walmart or walgreens one and noticed there are different types of iron.  Does it matter for us which type of iron to take?

Yeah, it does.

I always suggest carbonyl iron, because it's absorbed really well in our pouches ('cause it doesn't take much stomach acid to absorb it) and doesn't normally cause constipation.

Walmart carries a brand called Feosol, but look closely because that brand makes both carbonyl and ferrous sulfate.  If you like being able to poop, you don't want the ferrous sulfate.
