worsening lactose intolerance 8 months out??
I have always been somewhat lactose intolerant. Until I was tested and diagnosed at 32 years, I had no idea why I had been sick all my life. Afterword I was able to tolerate dairy with lactaid enzyme pills. I had been fine post surgery with dairy as long as I take the pills. Now though I have been sick all the time. I didn't think about it, but it feels like before I knew about the lactose intolerance. I am going to avoid dairy to test out my theory, but I was wondering since RNY makes some people intolerant- would it really worsen this far out??
I'm not post-op yet so can't opine on that but I'd found that even whey protein (concentrate OR isolate) makes me ill - so Lactaid tabs have helped alot. Could your protein be making you feel bad? Of course, rule out one food/drink at a time to find the culprit!

I've been getting my protein from food- not shakes any more. But I'm pretty sure it is the dairy and the lactaid isn't really working anymore. If I find it is the dairy by eliminating it right now, I wil slowly add things (hard cheeses and yougurt first- they have less lactose) and take lactaid to see what I can and can't handle. Since surgery everything is trial and error!! And then when you find a food you can eat- there are some days you can't!! Life is never boring post surgery! :)
