7 Weeks and not good

At 5 weeks I started having problems swallowing and had gas and heart burn. Turns out 8-10% of patients get a stricture and I had to be one of them. Surgeon dillated my pouch opening slightly but today I could hardly swallow scrambled eggs. I am shakey and my feet are swelling like crazy. Took water pill but they are still huge and I am gaining weight. I don't use salt and my hands and face are not swelling. My back hurts my stomach hurts. I eat less than 1000 calories a day and low carbs. I see the doc tomorrow but I am worried.

Do you normally have trouble with eggs? I used to love them, but they don't settle well at all now. If you normally can eat eggs, there may still be a stricture. (I had a stricture dilated yesterday, and I'm having a much easier time eating and drinking now -- just not eggs. :)  ) I don't know what the swelling is about, though. Best to see what the doc says!

I have never had trouble with eggs but now that you mention it, since the RNY they are much more difficult to get down. No matter what way I fix them - egg salad, hard boiled, soft boiled, scrambled. I love eggs so I hope eventually I can eat them again.

I felt much better for about 5 days after first dillation. I guess it just takes time. Thanks for your help.

I to am one who had a stricture at about 4 weeks out. Do not be suprised if you need it dilated more than once. I unfortunatly had to have it dilated a total of 5 times with injections of steroids into the scar tissue. It is kind of like 2 steps forward 3 steps back for a while. It took a good three months before I could eat normally. I hope you feel better soon, just want you to know you will need a degree in patience before this journey gets easier.

I wish you all the best, one day at a time

You need to call your surgeon, sounds like you have some stuff going on that they can help you with.

Thank you all for responding. I need to have another dillation next week. Patience has never been my strong suit but I am learning. PCP is running tests - took all my blood today - to see abou****er retention. Lost 10 lbs after one water pill. He thinks back pain may be result of procedure to repair hiatal hernia during RNY on 2/11/11. Should get blood results Monday or Tuesday I guess. Surgeon explained I will need multiple dillations. Just hope my bosses understand.

Thanks for your encouraging words. I am just a worry wart.
