Never feel really FULL...anyone else experienced this "early" after surgery?
I've only been on a SOFT foods diet for a little over 2 weeks now. And I've never really felt FULL. I've never felt the "take one more bite and you might regret it feeling" that the Doctor described. I've measured my foods and have eaten around 1/2 cup, sometimes a bit more but I've tried to stick to the rules of 1/2 cup. And I've yet to feel the sense of fullness in my upper abdomen around my breast bone area where they talk about you feeling the "full" sensation. Perhaps it's because I'm eating soft foods like....fat free refried beans, yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, shrimp, turkey pepperoni with hummus as a dip, mashed potatoes, and still drinking some at least 1 protien shake daily.
I guess later on when I start to eat more foods that have TEXTURE/solidity about them, perhaps I'll feel the sense of being full. I'm worried now because I don't feel full. I feel like I could eat more after I eat the 1/2 cup of food, but I don't because I know I've had my portion for my meal. But I certainly don't feel this strong sense of fullness--no way.
Anyone else experience this? Anyone who's about 1 month out from surgery experience this?
Yesterday made 1 month since surgery for me. Everything is going great. I'm hoping the problem of not feeling full right now relates to the types of foods that I'm eating & that's causing me to NOT get the full feeling. I do tend to eat soft mushy foods that just SLIDE down right now. So that might explain it. I'm going to try to eat more foods this week that aren't mushy soft, but are still on my soft foods list. Maybe I'll start to get a FULL POUCH feeling.
If you've experienced this sense of not being FULL, not having a full pouch...I'd love to hear from you. Thanks. Have a wonderful Sunday!

Its very common for people to not get the full feeling with liquids and soft foods. One of the reasons is the soft food passes thru the stomach pretty quickly. When you do start eating solids you have to be careful with the amount you can eat. Remember that you want to feel satisfied, not full. This takes a long time to understand the difference. Sometimes that one bite will make people throw up, get sick. Sometimes I over eat and will have these strange burps that sound like I am going to throw up.When you do start eating solids try to make your meal last 20-30 minutes. It takes that long for you brain to tell your stomach that your full.Tamara
Many people really feeling nothing....until they feel sick! I often still feel that way at a year out. Nerves are cut, the anatomy is different and add that to the fact that historically we tend to have "broken" full meters...or we never would have gotten to the point of needing WLS. That is why it is so important to weigh and measure everything...we can't use that full feeling as an indicator that we are done eating.

I'm 3-1/2 months out and I still don't feel full after eating -- at least not like I did before surgery. I have learned to recognize new cues from my body that indicate I have eaten enough. For me, it's a feeling at the back of my throat (tough to describe) that tells me "this is the last bite." If I ignore that, I'll start to hiccup. If I don't pay attention to that the resulting misery isn't worth the extra bites of food. From my support group and the boards, I have learned that these new cues tend to be different for everyone. So start paying attention to your body and the cues it is giving you to say "enough."
Until you learn your new "full" signals, keep measuring your food so you don't overdo it and make youself sick!

I am one month, two days postop. I have barely started getting "full" signals. A slight feeling in the area of my breastbone or a little lower, a queasy feeling, a hiccup/burp series. I will say the feeling is much intensified with the tiny bit of solid food I have consumed - fish and shredded chicken - and I get full MUCH sooner with that.
I can generally eat 4 ounces of pureed or soft food no problem at all. I have eaten 6 ounces of Wendy's chili no problem at one sitting, then a day later have been unable to eat 3 ounces of the same thing. I guess its all relative to the day and what you are eating and drinking at the time.
Solid food? A couple bites, thoroughly chewed, maybe.

We had surgery about the same time...I was only 1 day later. We've lost about the same amount of weight too. :-) You're right...I'm sure I'll start to get that FULL feeling when I'm eating foods that are more solid than soft. Tonight I had a boiled egg and some refried beans with fat free Kraft cheese on top. I'll have to admit after I ate the egg and had some of the beans I started to feel this discomfort in my chest--perhaps that's my cue. I didn't eat any thing else. I do measure my food and try desperately not to eat over 1/2 cup.
I won't be on solid foods until after June 16th. I'm supposed to be on soft foods until then. I'm sure I'll start to get the full feeling once I start eating solid foods. Thanks for your comments. :-)

You won't feel full or hungry for a couple months due to the nerves that were cut. However, you do NOT want that "full" feeling. I "eyeballed" the amount of food I should have the other night instead of using a measuring cup and I ended up over eating. I didn't realized it until about 1/2 hr after I ate I got really bad gas pains in my upper stomach right underneath my ribs and it lasted for about 3 hours. It was HORRIBLE. It didn't feel better until I threw up. Trust me... you don't want to test the waters.
