Any post-ops who were bakers pre-op?
I love to bake. It's a real stress reliever for me. There's something kind of incredible about collecting ingredients, measuring perfectly, tweaking a little and creating something. It's not even about eating the item, though I often do. For me, it's more about making something beautiful that makes people say, "wow!" Then when they taste it, they say, "OH WOW!" (That could be a fat/self-esteem thing.) lol Living in another country, I am able to introduce people to lots of recipes, Southern and decadent, that they've never had before. (Okay, I made homemade Samoas for my MIL this weekend, because there are no Girl Scouts here. lol)
So... what do you do now? I am going to miss my fun hobby, but I can't imagine making cakes, cookies or pies post-op except on special occasions. I make things less often now and eat very little, but I still want to bake. "Family is coming?! What can I cook?!" Did you just give up baking? Did you miss it? Did you reroute your energy to some other hobby? Did you try to bake healthier options? Do you just jump on a treadmill when the desire to bake hits? lol

Pink!
I still bake. I bake breads, cookies, cakes, etc. I don't do it often (never did do it very often, but I enjoy doing it). My kids and hubby eat the cake (I make several small cakes and then hand some out to friends neighbors or freeze for later.) the kids eat cookies on occasion (none of us have a real big sweet tooth) and what they won't eat I send home with the neighbor kids. I get to have fun baking with the kids and the kids enjoy giving stuff to their friends. win-win in my book.

I also love, love to bake. For all the same reasons you listed. In fact, i just finished icing some black bottom cupcakes for a friend's birthday.
I just don't eat the finished product! (i'll admit to tasting batter, licking spoons, etc!) it lets me feel like myself again. This surgery is realky forcing me to face a lot of food issues/self esteem issues, etc. Baking (even if i don't getbto eat a cupcake or piece of cake) lets me feel like myself again!

I've always liked to bake/cook too, especially trying new things. In fact last year I started taking cake decorating classes and absolutely love it!! It was like finally finding the creative outlet I've been looking for. I dont know if I'd call it a stress reliever cause I am sort of a perfectionist with it- especially if someone is paying me to do a cake for their special occassion. I took my cakes for my classes to work for eveyone to enjoy. It was also a huge boost for people to oooo and aaahh! over them. It also got me some business lol. I say, still enjoy baking and eventually find some RNY friendly recipes that you can enjoy once in a while too!
I love to bake and I have a business called Toni's Tasty Treats. I have not found it difficult at all in continuing to bake for others and not have any. There have been occasions when I need to bake something new that I want to try really bad but I use my family to taste for me. I hope this helps you.
I love to bake and still do. I too use it to relieve stress. Nothing has changed for me - I just don't eat what I bake (usually) and my husband functions as my "taster" now. It's the experience that I enjoy - I don't miss eating the finished product.
You probably bake just as much or more post-op, and just learn to adapt it to your own lifestyle/eating plan as you get farther along.

I never baked pre wls, but I bake all the time now! I make low carb, sugar free, high protein treats and freeze them so that I can have a treat occasionally.
I recently came across this amazing blog full of yummy treats that are easy to tweak to make more wls friendly.

Im a caterer and have a business. I still bake/cook regularly and taste what I make. I don't do special recipes for clients just for my house specially since my daughter just had surgery and my other daughter is a size 2 and already eats like a lil bit. But I dont dump too often and I dont do special diet stuff... my dr was BIG on NOT being on a life diet.. I eat mainly regular foods just swaps like ground turkey for ground beef
