Kelly, This was a great idea. I have been teaerful for 2 days and need to think about the positive.

1. I am greatful to have been able to have had this surgery and to be doing well 2 weeks post-op

2. I am glad for a job I love which is allowing be to be off after surgery as I need even if I get no paid time off

3. I am glad for the unconditional love of animals and my current dog Suh who is a total sweetheart.

4. I am greatful for the family and friends who have supported me through all of this and for all of your support here on the OH board.

5. I am glad for the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life which give me so much strength.

I really love reading everyone else's lists because it reminds me of so many more things I did not even add to mine.  And it's just good to remember how many blessings we have, and notice how not one person has posted and said they do not have one single blessing in their life?  Some list more than others, but no one says they have none.

I forgot to mention how blessed I feel by all my friends here on OH.  This place is truly amazing and I'm so glad I found it.

What a very nice idea - if we all did this daily it would help us focus on the positive and not the negative.  You helped a lot of people today by shifting our thinking.  Bless you.

I have too many blessings to list here.  You have been a blessing to many today with your post.

At one time, I kept a gratitude journal.  A friend suggested it.  Every day I wrote down at least three things I was thankful for.  I don't know why I quit, because I did find it very helpful.

I have kept a gratitude journal off and on for about 7 years...  I started doing it at my therapist's suggestion when I was feeling suicidal after my assault... and during very stressful or difficult times (like the past couple of weeks) when it is hard to feel positive (long, boring story... sigh) I go back and look through it.  Some of the things in it are major (WLS supportive family, comfortable home, etc.) and many are very minor (e.g., a day of sunshine after 3 weeks of cloudy/rainy days) but they all offer a positive perspective.

When I did mine, it was often very minor things.  Like one day I had to be at work at 5 am, which I hated, but I happened to look out the window and there was this little lake out back, and the sun was just coming up and it was absolutely amazing, the beautiful colors over that lake.  But it's really the little things that matter, isn't it?  I mean, the big things matter too, but life is made up of little things.
