I am going to be totally honest with you, even if it means I will get totally flamed.  I smoked right up until I got to the door of the hospital and when I got out 3 days later I got home, poured myself a cup of coffee and had a damn cigarette.  I am the posted child for what NOT to do when you have gastric bypass.

LOL!!  One thing I did notice is that I started smoking alot more after the surgery.  I think I was trying to compensate for the food loss.  I would definitely suggest quitting before the surgery but I also understand how nerve wracking it is to try to quit.  I have faith that you will do the right thing when the time comes..

OK so I smoked up to the and hour before I had surgery also. I'm three weeks out and am smoking again. I'm scared of getting a ulcer. You never got one?

How long has it been since your surgery, and have you had any complications?

What kinds of complications occurred? If any?

I HAD to quit before surgery and didn't smoke for about 6 months.   I do smoke now and want to try (once current life situation settles down) to quit again.  I also had to quit one month before my plastics.

My surgeon did test my blood (can't remember the test) to be sure I was smoke free.  You really need to quit for surgery.  Once you quit don't smoke just one again, because you'll be in the same situation I am yet again.

My surgeon and those in his practice also refuse to operate on smokers.
