Energy Levels?

I'm almost 9 weeks out from surgery, had an open RNY and I have absolutely no energy. I started back to work this week and its all I can do to get through the day. Is this normal? I almost feel like I have less energy than I had before surgery and its starting to worry me.

9 weeks out seems a little long for you to be having such low energy.

I returned to work on day 13 post op, worked half days that 1st week, and was back to FT with no problem getting thru the day at a month out.

How is your eating going? Are you able to take in enough calories to maintain some energy? If your eating is not going well and you are not getting enough protein, and yes, even a few good carbs, that could be the culprit too.

If you are worried, definitely call the doc, they might have better advise for you.

Good luck

Well an open surgery is far more taxing on the body than laproscopic

You also spent 9 weeks being less active, your muscles lost tone, you must work up to a full time status.... you're exhausted because you are working now and weren't before, it's going to be a hard transition.

My guess is that you will feel a little better each day.

LOL , I thought I was the only one that felt so tired   We even delayed my return to work 2 weeks and even then I could just barely hang in there . .  I asked a few post op friends and they said they felt the same .

Im glad im not alone in being tired! I am having trouble getting enough calories in, I only get about half the protein i need a day and most of the water. Its hard to eat though when everything I put in my mouth makes me naseous.

I was completely exhausted until the 3 month mark, then by 6 months my energy level was back up to normal.  I think you're fine.  Just keep focusing on getting your vitamins and protein in. It gets better, I promise!!

I had lap RNY but have had 4 open abdominals surgeries before.  I was always slow to get my energy back after open surgery.

Getting your protein, vits and water in will help to improve your energy.  Get plenty of sleep.  I still go to bed early, between 9-10 and am up around 6-7.

I also think when my D3 got up, I started feeling better.  Mine was low before and it took a while to come back to where it needed to be (around 100).
