So here i am thinking that my recovery from my March 14th RNY is going perfectly...well aparently not being able to sip liquids without pain isnt normal! They think it might be a small stricture and i have to have another barium swallow tomorrow morning to diagnos the problem. Anyone whos about 4 weeks out, can you all sip without pain/gurgling?! Also, anybody with stricture experience..howd it go for you? Thanks-nicole

My surgery was the 17th of march. i ended up having a stricture.. I did not have to do the swallow test my doc went in and did another endoscopy so if there was a stricture he could just fix it then. Due to the nurse not consulting with the doctor I suffered for almost a full week. couldn't drink anything or move to my puree foods. I was completely sick i could never throw up tho. I could barely sip water or any fluids. The procedure to fix the stricture was fast and i was out of it the whole time they twilight you so you dont know whats going on.. Good luck and I hope they get you fixed up soon

OMG I was having the worst of pain drinking water or anything, even eating. I am 4 weeks out, I had my surgery March 8th. And one complication after another is all I have. Reversal in 2 weeks!
Pancreatitis, gall bladder dysfunction, and a few other things I inherited after surgery. No Bueno!
But now, I am trying to eat & drink alot more, and the pain isnt half as bad. Considering being in the hospital for 2 out of the 4 weeks!

Stricture-I havent had that -knock on wood-....I did have a scope though and it came out normal.

Wish you the best, hopefully your pain will subside-and you can get your drink on! Alot of people who had the surgery cannot drink water that well after surgery. Mix SF crystal Lite with it!

Good Luck!

I'll have to ask, though you may well have already discussed this.  It sounds like you have been through hellish complciations, but are starting to feel better.  Are you sure you want it reversed?  I know that was all I could think about my first week and change (I had a 103 plus fever a couple of days after being released, and ended up back in the hospital just miserable).  Once things started getting better though, they got better real quickly.  Just a thought.

Yes I do have to have it reversed. My nutrition is not good, and there are other reasons the surgeon told me. So I have to do what is going to make me healthy again. I wish I didnt have to to be honest. But like my surgeon said b4, some ppl's bodies are ok for the surgery some are not.

I am 8 years post op and had several complications including a couple strictures.  Once they do the scope it should relieve a lot of your pain.  My best advice is to keep a journal.  Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Warm, or room temp liquids went down a lot more comfortable the first 2 months...just got back to iced liquids the past few weeks. Bad pouch days are best treated with warm for me!!

I had no problem taking even small normal drinks of water from the first week onward... no pain and no noise.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
