C-section vs RNY?
I know everyone has a different level of pain tolerance but I am curious, for those who have had a c-section which was more painful?
My first c-section, I thought I was going to die. I had never had surgery before. My 2nd c-section I didn't even take pain pills other than ibuprofen and Tylenol.
I am pre-op and just wondering.

I had a hysterectomy (but no C-sections), an appendectomy, open RNY, and several lap abdominal procedures. ALL of my lap procedures were SIGNFICANTLY less painful than ANY of my open procedures.

I have had 2 c-sections one emergent and one not and I had RNY a wee ago today.
My first one was awful...so much pain and burning brutal! Second one much, much easier.
RNY much easier than either of the c-sections. First off you aren't waking up for a baby every hr or two and trying to recover from surgery. I am one week out and have ZERO pain, actually never did have pain. I haven't taken pain meds since the hospital. I think Lapro surgery is much easier to recover from.

I had 3 c-sections, and lap RNY. The RNY was much less painful, in terms of feeling ouchie from the surgery itself.
That said, learning how to eat, drink, take pills and re-structure your life is harder and a lot more painful than I anticipated it being. For me, eating and taking pills is really hard and sometimes painful and I'm a month out from surgery.
I'd still do it again in a heart beat. ;-)

I had a lap procedure to remove my ovary about 6 years ago and an emergency c-section almost 22 years ago. They both were harder recoveries than the lap RNY. I agree with the previous post... It's going to be more difficult re-learning how to eat and drink. Be prepared for emotional upsets as well!! Those snuck up on me and I had buyers remorse several times.
Good luck!!!
Good luck!!!
Both of my c-sections were exactly like yours! The first one was a nightmare, I was down for weeks! - the second I was out in TEN HOURS and went to a picnic - felt great!
I'm 4 weeks post-op and had some slight complications, so I couldn't be up walking as soon as some others. BUT, once I was up and started moving around, was much better. I didn't take the pain medicine except for my first night home just to help me sleep and get good rest. The incisions didn't hurt at all. The first day or two home, I was stiff and needed help to get up the first day - but that was it. I had some minor (very minor) aches/pains for a few days, but not even bad enough to take tylenol. Other than that - I actually feel GREAT right now. I feel completely back to normal. Hope this helps!
Best of luck with your surgery!

I had open RNY followed by 2 c-sections. RNY was more painful for me becaue of the pulling on the incision from the weight of my belly. My incision is only about 5 inches. The c-sections werent painless but much easier for me. I had both vertically instead of the normal bikini line. Lap would seem like cake after a c-section. Good luck- It helped me to just keep thinking the pain is temporary, compared what you get out of it, it's so worth it!
Only speaking from personal experiences, but I've had 3 c-secions (1995, 1996, and 1998) and then my lap RNY (2011) and for me, the RNY was far worse than the 3 c-sections put together. I am not sure why. I have some theories. First of all I was much younger for the c-sections. Second I weighed a lot less and was in better shape generally with the c-sections. Also I had become a diabetic and had high blood pressure for the RNY. And for me it wasn't the incisions that bothered me per se it was my back. I guess where they had me laying on that hard operating table and I have back troubles to begin with but the back pain I had for the first 2 days was horrible. But then the third day I started feeling better and each day after that.
Still, all that said, I would so do it again. It's got me off diabetes meds and off high blood pressure meds and has allowed me to rejoin the living. It's truly been a miracle surgery for me and so many others too :)

My Lap. RNY has been my most painful surgery.
I have had a csection.
Many Lap. explortary surgeries.
2 incesional hernia repairs.
Hysterectomy ( partial)
Gallbladder removal with a hiatal hernia repain and adhesions removed.
Appendix removed.
All together about 10 or so stomach surgeries.
And I had my wisdom teeth cut out and I woke up in the middle of that.
