5 weeks out... my top ten list
I am five weeks out. It was a few days ago that I really felt like I had made it over the hump. Here's some stuff for pre-ops that I thought might be good to read because lots of time there's scarey stuff on here because someone is having trouble and need some advise, or just want to vent. So, I am certainly not a veteran, but I wanted to share!
So here's mt top ten list!!
1. Would I do it over again? I wish I could have done it without, but my past history shows clearly that I needed an extra tool. I am 51 - trust me, this was my last straw! So, yeah - even at only 5 weeks, I would do it again.
2. I had to sip water for a few days, but now I take regular drinks.
3. I took the time to research and learn what is recommended by surgeons and the official people and made tweaks to my surgeons plan that fit me yest were within guidelines. For instance, my plan is 3 meals, period. This was not wokring for me and when I added a 4th my lightheadedness went away.
4. I vomitted once and it was because I did not chew like I should have. Lesson learned.
5. From the minute I started puree and have added some soft I have been able to eat about a 1/2 c or bit more.
6. I have lost 23 pds. since surgery 5 weeks ago, but have to tell you only 9 of those were in the past 4 weeks. That frustrates me but I figure that eventually I will get a pattern going.
7. I like the plain old gas x dissolvable tablets (generic available) for gas, although I don't have that much more than I did pre-op.
8. Diet cranberry juice is my fave thing to drink from the 0 calorie list
9. I already note a big difference in joint pain which I know from other experience has a lot to do with decreasing simple carbs.
10. My body needs some carbs - it functions better and I have better energy when I have them so I eat complex carbs like whole grain, etc. I have not had any issues with complex carbs! yay me. I always toast my english muffin or whatever I am having.
So there you have it... even though you didn't ask for it.

I just want to thank you for posting this ! I am pre-op and sometimes on here it can be overwhelming & scary to read some comments . I know there are simple things that I think us pre-ops want to know but sometimes think silly asking --- like my goodness can I ever drink normal again -- lol.
I am glad things are going well for u and u give me hope in moving forward. I have already done 3 months of classes -- Living Well ( eating healthy now and exercising ) -- and most tests. Just an induced stress test and then a meeting with the surgeon to set the date !! I pray things go fast because I want to join u on the losers bench!!
