Ambien Alternative?

I'm kinda curious about Lunesta & Sonata too, as I've been on Ambien for a while & starting to lose effect - probably due to increased nerves about surgery.
Ladytazz, this may be an odd question but have you ever tried wearing gloves to sleep? Maybe even those aloe gloves so you wake up to soft hands? Just a thought

I had auditory hallucinations with Ambien, but take Lunesta (only very occasionally) without incident. I have not tried Sonata but have/had several clients who have taken it with good results. Several clients reported doing things on Ambien that they did not remember, including what their partners recounted as some pretty intense sexual encounters!

I have thought about wearing gloves but I am afraid that I will just take them off while I am sleeping.  If I can bite my nails in my sleep I am sure I can take the gloves off.  At least that is my reasoning.  I may give it a try though.

I use Trazadone also. I had med resistant insomnia, that was until I met Trazadone. :)

I was on Trazadone for many years until it just didn't work for me any more.  That is when I started on the Ambien.

Do you have trouble GETTIN to sleep?  or STAYING asleep?  Or both?

I only have trouble FALLING asleep, and frankly I only take about 1/3rd of an Ambien -- no side effects.

Melatonin gave me hideous, urgent diarrhea ... won't forget (or forgive) that one!

One other product I have found helpful:  cal/mag with calcium hydroxyapatite.  Not good for us as a calcium supplement, but it helped me sleep (and sleep very well).

Mainly falling asleep but sometimesI wake up and can't get back to sleep.
I'm going to try the Melatonin tonight.  I also bought some Valerian Root to try along with it.  We'll see how it goes.  With my constipation maybe it will help out a little ;)
Where did you get the cal/mag?  I already take magnesium oxide for my constipation issues.  Is that the same magnesium?

Ambien is, of course, notorious for people doing things and not remembering doing them.  I did not have that problem, but I had a really bad experience with auditory hallucinations with Ambien (hearing a male voice calling your name when you are home alone is NOT good for someone who suffers from PTSD!!!!)  After that, I refused to take it.  My PCP switched me to Lunesta and that has worked fine for me.  I alos feel less groggy when I was up after taking the Lunesta than I did with the Ambien.

Unisom is a brand name. Costco sells their "Sleep Aid", which is the same formula. No auto-erase on the memory and it makes you drowsy vs ambien which simply turns off your lights. Now.
