I have BCBS of Maryland & got approval within 24hrs of all the paperwork being submitted. However, my surgeon works differently than most and I had my surgery date scheduled nearly a month before they submitted for approval. Talk about sweating bullets. But stayed  on top of the office to make sure everything was together thru that month and was shocked at the quick approval! And apparently they've started paying the hospital claims already.....

Thanks! That makes me feel A LOT better. I just kept thinking this process seemed backwards than everyone elses - but it seems you and I went the same route!

My insurance required six month supervised medical diet. I was approved after that and then my surgery was scheduled.

I am not even having to wait on insurance.  We are paying for most of mine and took out a small loan to make up the difference and the loan was approved last wk but now I cannot get the surgeons office to return my calls or emails.  I am trying not to get aggravated, but my husband is a contractor overseas, I have three kids at home and a care for my disabled sis-in-law and my surgery will take place approx 2 hrs from where I live.  So I have to make arrangements for a ride to get that far as well as arrange to have someone come oversee the kids and SIL while I am gone.  I would like to at least have a tentative date and they haven't even returned my calls.  You would think they would be jumping on a case that doesnt' have to fight an insurance company!
