OMG! I am soooo frustrated with protein.....gotta get 64gms in daily and I'm having SUCH a hard time....I  did 40 gms in supplements but  guess I have to try and stomach another gulp of that disgusting Nu-Whey cuz I could only get 18 in real food....how will I ever be able to get the majority of protein from food and have to take less of this "gack"? WIll I? I;m hgandling 4oz of food already and it's my understanding we never want to eat more than that no?  I don't know.....just confused I guess.

I totally understand! I used to love my protein shakes and thought people were crazy when they talked about them starting to be just plain sick... But guess where Im at now? I buy pretty much any shake or bar I come across and most of them are a waste of money and intolerable! But if you can eat regular food now I have noticed that a 4 ounce piece of tilapia has around 28 grams of protein in it! So if I had a bad protein day I cook up a piece of fish and feel better about it. There are a bunch of ways to cook it if you look around which make it pretty darn good.

I eat a cup of food at a time.

Greek yoghurt has 19 g of protein per serving

THank You so much for the suggestions!!!  I actually love TIlapia and even though I'm still on a soft diet it's one the approved foods.....and even though I hate Greek yogurt it tastesa heck of a lot better than any of the protein supplements I've tried.

No matter what, though, I WILL get in my protein....I m gonna follow the rules to the letter because I really, really want to be succesful in the long term.  Thanks Again!

I hate hate HATED the greek yoghurt to begin with.... I could NOT see what everyone was all gaga about, and since it was a 50 mile drive to the store that carried it, I just ignored it.

Then the local store started carrying it, and the yoghurt brand I was consuming started to make me dump, so I needed an alternative..... so  I decided to try it again with berries and splenda....and I fell in love!

Today is the first time I was able to get in the required protein.  My DH made stew and I blended it in the bullet.  It was delish and I was able to hold it down.  Tomorrow I hope I can eat the leftovers w/o getting sick!

There must be SOME kind of protein powder that you can tolerate.  There are certainly MANY that taste better -- IMO -- than the Nu Whey!  Have you ordered some samples fromm Vitalady so you can try many different brands and flavors to find some that are decent tasting?

Be sure that the protein foods you are eating give you a good "bang for the buck" in terms of the amount of protein in a small amount of food.  I know it's hard when you're early out, but it will make you feel better if you have to drink fewer of the shakes.

Cottage cheese and greek yogurt are the highest soft food proteins that  I can think of.

I get my protein supplement in my coffee.  I use vanilla protein (muscle milk 100% whey bought at Costco) 1.5 scoops to 4 oz water.  It makes a thick slurry.  I add half to a mug of decaf coffee.  Repeat.   Whaaa la, Vanilla Protein Latte.  Also, the muscle milk vanilla tastes like sugar cookies to me.  Yum.

The rest of my meals I go for dense proteins, chicken, fish, turkey, beef etc.  I try for 3 oz, but usually can do only 2.  Most days I get over 80 g protein.

I used to hate the protein drinks, too, and I couldn't wait until I could get all my protein from food but I realized at the rate I was going it could be a while. I decided I was going to make the best of it and I started listening to people like Eggface and Nik and I started playing with it. I bought a bunch of sugar free syrups and pudding mixes and began experimenting with them. Now I have 3 protein drinks a day and I look forward to them. I found that when my fluids were over 100 oz a day and my protein is over 100 grams a day I lose pretty good and that is incentive for me.
If you haven't already check out Eggface and Bariatric Foodie for some good ideas. I usually use Body Fortress because it is pretty cheap and I like the taste. For unflavored I found a whey isolate from New Zealand that mixes very well.
