problem with my choices of food
I have the bad habit of always wanting "slider" foods. I have successfully eaten alot of solid foods with no problem (except for the ham) and I pretty much like them, but I am just more comfortable with cottage cheese, greek yogurt, protein pudding, protein jello, various shakes etc. The only solid food I come clode to enjoying is protein bars and sometimes they're qusetionable. I know that right now it's probably not that big of a deal, but in the future, when I get my sense of hunger back, I know it will lead to grazing and probably weight gain, and Lord, I don't want that!! I am trying to introduce more solids in and I'm doing o.k., but I still just keep going back to my good ole standby's. Has/does anybody else have this problem? I'm kinda worried I'm going to sabotage myself.
If I didn't have hubby (who looooves to barbecue) I probably would. He makes and feeds me lots of steak, and thus I get some good solid proteins. But it is a good thing to recognize and to fight against.

Try not to stress about it. You are only what, about 5 or 6 weeks out? I wasn't even allowed solid food until week 9 and personally I don't think most are ready for too awful much of it before then.
I bet by the time you are farther out, you'll be plenty sick of your favorite puddings and jellos and more than ready to try other stuff. I know when I was allow refried beans and cheese, I thought for sure I'd be eating it forever because it was so good - now I can hardly stand the thought of it. Some days I still go back to what you refer to as sliders and I always have at least one yogurt a day, but once I was really into eating regular food (around the 3rd month) I was more than ready for bigger and better things.
I bet by the time you are really healed up, you'll find yourself craving some good, solid proteins too.
Fully marinated steaks and chicken will probably be your friends as they are very moist, but another good protein to try when you're ready is jerky (if you like it). I eat beef, many eat the turkey variety for less fat, but it is an awesome protein that works great as a snack.
Anyway, good luck and don't borrow trouble ;) because I bet you'll be just fine!

Thanks Lith and Amy. I am allowed to have stuff like refried beans and such and I would really rather eat my "regulars." I am glad to hear you say that you weren't even allowed to eat "solid" foods until 9 weeks. I kind of had that thought to myself. I thought that there were alot of surgeons who don't even allow patients to be on solid foods until even further out than 9 weeks. Maybe I will grow out of this phase, which will be better for me in the long run. But, for right now I'll just keep eating the solids I know I like and tolerate like chicken, turkey eggs etc. Thanks for responding!!
I would say, since you are still early out, that you are fine. I still don't eat much meat as I just can't handle it. I can do hamburger but that's about it. If given a choice, I typically go for a softer food. I may have a few pretzel chips with my cottage cheese or yogurt. Meat and "hard" proteins I just don't do. I still get much of my protein from shakes.
I am in he same time frame you are. I have tried most animal protiens and the list of things that bother my tummy is pretty long. I do well with the softies like seafood, yougurt, cottage cheese and my protien shakes. Poultry, pork and ground beef don't do well even if I make them moist. I eat what I can and it works. I also eat sugar free popsicles. Its all good. I keep trying the other stuff about once a week or so to see if anything has changed and so far no. We adjust in our own time. We both will be fine.
I only strive to be, the kind of person my dogs think I am!
