Self Pay vs. Insurance Paid Percentage

I am self-pay and there is no way I could have had the surgery in the states. I had complications and I wanted LRNY. I found a doctor in Tijuana, Mexico who was highly qualified. He had taught at UCLA for 2 years doing this procedure. He took care of the bad adhesions I had, an obstructed bowel and the RNY, all without a large incision. It was only 12,000 for everything. None of my complications ran the cost up. I can't say enough good about my experience. I am 5 weeks out and have lost 25 lbs.

Thanks for the reply's!  Although most seemed to be covered by insurance, there are a good number of us (perhaps 20%) that are in the Self Pay boat. 

I'm not happy about paying 100% of the cost but my wife and I agree this necessary. 

About 6 folks are self pay *****plied or ~46% of those that replied unless I miscounted along the way.  Interesting.  Thanks for the replies.
