Okay, So a Hernia Feels Like... What? And Where?

Hey ya'll. Yeah, it's me. Dumb Dee. Guess what I did? Guess what I hope I DIDN'T do...

So, I pick my daughter up and pre school, and she's having a friend over to play, so I got them both. We waited for my older children to get out of school (same school) so I let the girls play on the playground. They jumped right on the see-saw, of course. They both are probably 15lbs, sopping wet holding a brick. So they didn't get far. So me, being Wonder Mommy, PUSHED DOWN on one side of the see-saw to get it started. A few minutes pass, and I did it again. When we got in the car to come home, I got a BLINDING pain in my left side when I went to get into the driver's seat. It was periodic, and a PAIN, not burning, but very intense. I had to wait until hubby got home, but I am lying down now and that appears to be helping.

So here's where ya'll say "Oh no! THAT doesn't sound like a hernia at all!" PLEASE say that. I refuse to go back to the hospital until my 8wk f/u appt (May 3rd).

Well, the closest I can come is to say that my hernia, even though it was quite large (surgeon 6x6 inch piece of mesh to repair it), didn't hurt much at all (just created a giant bulge in my belly).... and that I HOPE your pain is not a hernia!   Even if ti IS a hernia, you should still be able to wait for your scheduled appointment... the only danger with them is if the intestine gets "caught" in the muscle.

Take it easy!!!!

Okay, so the Expert is saying that this doesn't sound like a hernia.

Excellent. I feel better already. It hasn't hurt at all since I layed down, but I know I can't lay down forever!

Thanks, Lora!

Not an expert my any stretch of the imagination...! (Some poeple DO have significant pain from their hernias.  I just did not, which was surprising given it's size.)

Glad you're feeling better.  Get up cautiously when you do, LOL.... but if the sharp pain returns, of course, you should at least CALL your surgeon tomorrow.

I had an little (about an inch long) umbilical hernia a few years before WLS and it really wasn't painful. Periodically, it would bulge out through the muscle wall, and I'd pu**** back into place.

Until the time it got stuck, wouldn't push back in, started to swell and was excrutiatingly painful. Turned into emergency surgery. Not fun!

My very non-expert advice would be if there's a bulge you can push back into place it can probably wait until your next appointment, which isn't very far away. If it starts to feel like something has protruded through the muscle wall and is stuck, get to a doctor, as strangulated tissue can die.

It's not hurting as much now. Thanks for the experiences. Hubby thinks I pulled a muscle or maybe stretched a stitch. If it still hurts like this tomorrow I will definitely CALL my doctor. But unless he comes and picks me up, he won't SEE me LOL
