Question about taking communion after surgery.

I am having surgery in two weeks.  While I was at church today and taking communion I was thinking to myself I wonder if the bread will cause me dump after surgery.  Has anyone had an issue with taking communion since RNY?

You can make it work for you.   It's just a small amt of juice and you can take a very small piece of the bread.  It does not matter if you eat the whole thing - it is the symbolism that holds the meaning.

We use grape juice and a Shortbread.  I am the pastor.  The grape juice did not bother me and I broke off just a small piece of the shortbread - not because I was worried but because I figured I just didn't need that much.

But - I don't seem to have issues.  In fact part of my surgeon's first week of clear liquids included a 1/2 cup of a sugared 100% juice four times a day.  We could dilute it but Ihad no trouble with it so I did not have to.

Everyone is different and I beleive it is like only 30% of the people dump.

Try a small ant at home as a test drive if you are worried.

Thank you both.  For the most part my church uses the waffers that dissolve, I'm not too worried about those.  The do occasionally used actual bread when they do I will make sure to take a smaller piece.

Such a very small amount will not cause a problem.  (Don't fret so much, LOL.... you'll drive yourself crazy!)

I took communion for the first time since RNY on Good Friday and was concerned. Then I thought this is ridiculous-Jesus died for my sins and He is not going to have me dump!!!

I have taken communion since wls, I just have a tiny piece of the cracker and a sip of the wine or juice as some use. Haven't had any issues with it.

Talk to your Pastor.  Mine was awesome.  The servers know to give me a small piece of the wafer and since we use real wine, for the first 3 months they gave me an individual cup that was mostly water with a drop of wine.  I totally agree with one of the previous post and it is exactly what my Pastor said.  "The God-Man who died on a cros for my sins, woukld not let his Body and Blood harm me.

I had communion in the hospital, right after surgery.

Good Luck,

Christy

I easily take communion now (we do the bread/grape juice thing too).  However, early out I was freaked out, in fact I remember posting a similar topic.  I actually didn't take communion for the first couple of months.  If it was a pastor I knew I just went down like regular but asked for a blessing instead of taking communion.  If it was a pastor I didn't know, I just took the bread, barely dipped it in the cup and then palmed the whole thing, took it back to my seat and disposed of it later.

Once I started actually taking communion,  the communion servers were so prone to tearing off large chuncks, that I would just nibble eensy bite and then dispose of the rest after church.

Ultimately you will probably be fine no matter which way you go, and honestly, whatever you decide to do, God understands what is in your heart :)
