Special needs for future surgery?

After years of constant foot issues, I've finally met with a doctor who believes he can help me with a fairly simple surgery on both legs.  If he's right, I'll be able to walk and exercise like a normal person for the first time EVER.  He says 2 weeks in walking boots with a walker and then another 2 weeks with just a walker and then I should be ready for anything!  Anyway, is there anything I should keep in mind that he should or should not do for surgery? He admitted he isn't familiar with the yays/nays of WLS protocol and in fact had me contact my surgeon to make sure specific meds were ok before prescribing them.  I'm also hoping to get approval for a spinal block instead of general, but we'll see.

Other than not taking an NSAIDs, there aren't any special considerations other than that he should order low sugar (diabetic) meals if you will have to stay in the hospital after surgery (otherwise, you will end up with sugared Jello, etc.)

It'll be day surgery in their surgery center, so unless there are unforseen complications, food shouldn't be an issue and he's flagged my chart as NSAID "allergy" so we're good on that front.  I'm looking forward to walking and exercising without pain soon.

Also alert them not to blindly insert an NG tube just incase they were using one for drainage during surgery- which isn't likely with a spinal, but just incase things change and general is used.
