Lab results....help

My latest lab results were faxed to my surgeon's office last week, and I called to check if there were any problems. I was told they would call me back in a couple days after my surgeon had looked over the results. That was several days ago, and I am not a patient person. ha ha. So, I went to my dr's office and got a copy of the results for myself.

Can someone help me decipher my results?

The ones that are bolded with (L) are low values and (H) are high values.

I do medical transcription and have a "cheat sheet" for approximate normal lab values and yours are all within normal range except the bold ones and those are only slightly off.  But I am NOT a nurse or doctor...

Vitamin B-12   401  While your B12 is WNL (within normal limits), it really is TOO low.  You want it to be closer to 1000.  Permanent neurological damage can occur at this level.

This is not a complete list of labs needed.  Did you get a PTH, vitamin D3???  There are more, but I am not on the computer where that info is stored.

You want to get your B-12 UP, although it's in "range" it's not a good range for us.

I want your ferritin number.

i WANT your ferretin level.  Mine is 8. Dang girl. Are you taking sublinquil vitamin b12.  I get mine at Walmart and take 1000mg/day.  My levels are good. Thats the only thing good about my labs

Call and ask to speak to nurse.  Make sure that they actually have gotten your labs.  I have a very difficult finding where my labs and faxes are.

Are you diabetic?  Your Glucose level (133) was a little elevated.  Did they do a Hemaglobin A1C?  They may not have.  That is a better indicator of long term blood glucose levels.

Yes, the B12 is low in my opinion as has been stated.  Where is the D level?

yes I take sublingual b-12....I've been taking 500 mcg daily. Should I take 2 pills a day (1000 mcg)? Just wondering what I need to do to get my level up. maybe I will have to get a shot?

Steve, I am diabetic. In December before I had my surgery my fasting BS would be 300. So yeah....my level is still a bit high, but not like it was. And, I am SO happy to finally be able to feel my fingertips and toes again. :) This wasn't a fasting BS test, plus I'm still 280+ pounds...so I'm hoping that's why it's a bit high. I'm hoping to see that # go down when I've lost a bit more weight. They didn't do an A1C because it wasn't on my surgeon's test order, but I can always ask my dr to check it for me.

The test order didnt include PTH or vitamin D3, I guess. I typed out all the results that I have. Are those tests that I should ask them to add for next time?

Vitamin d3 is very important to get tested, especially with you being a diabetic. When the vitamin D level is low the insulin resistance is higher. HAve the doctor do the hydroxy 25 test.

I would definetly start taking 2 sublinguil, you could even take 3 every other day. It wont hurt you. IF anything it will make you have more energy. You could take 1 in the early afternoon around 2 or 3 o clock
