Made my own Greek Yogurt...1/3 the price of store bought!
So I followed the instruction at the link below...the only thing she leaves out is straining. I put my strainer in a bowl, lined the strainer with a large coffee filter, put the yogurt in the strainer (after it set for 8 hours) and put it in the fridge. I think I need to whip it up with and electric mixer after it strains for a few hours to make it creamier.
This give you plain greek yogurt, which you can add syrups or fresh fruit and sweetener to. It is ummy yummy!

In the interest of saving some time and money, I buy a quart of fat free plain Mountain High yogurt that's on sale~ line a colander with 2 layers of cheesecloth, pour the yogurt in, put that over a bowl, to drain the whey, put in refrigerator for 24 hours and forget about it. Easy.

It's certainly cheaper if you're making your own plain yogurt... there's no reduction in volume from milk to yogurt in the process. When you get to straining is when you lose the volume. I still think it would end up more economical given the exorbitant price of greek yogurt.
Plus if you have access to cheap powdered milk, you can use it in lieu of fresh milk, too.
It's also much healthier for you! The probiotic cultures in freshly incubated yogurt are far more potent than in Activia or the lieke.
