Loved the protein ice cream and... sigh....
Loved the ice cream! I made it with light vanilla soy, choc protein pwder, PB2 and SF banana cream pudding... it was good. Little grainy but WAY better than drinking a shake!!!!
Now for the sigh. This is regard to the vitmain post and my sharing info my surgeon gave me.
I know I am not a veteran, I was only sharing info I was given. I find it interesting when i read all the differences in what surgeons say. I actually enjoy reading all the variations.
But... I have been "straightened out" when I comment that I discover something works better for me than what the exact plan was of my surgeon when it comes to food, and then I get it again because I say how I trust my surgeon and am tyring to follow her directions with the vitamins.
I guess maybe you guys didn't mean it that way - but when there are CAPS and short comments, it's kind of hard not to hear it as such. That's one prob with stuff being written and not spoken. We can't aways hear the compassion in the voice and the good intentions, or see the warmth in someone's eyes.
I need everyone of you - I can't go to my support group because it conflicts with a meeting I must attend for my job. I value ALL of your opinions. I don't care if you are pre-op or 10 years post op - you are all equally important and worthy of commenting.
None of us are experts - we are all in this together no matter where we are in the journey. I think all of us have the responsibility to take in all the information, balance it with what our surgeons tell us and then find ways to make it work for our very individual bodies.
And when my labs come back and SUCK in 6 months I will be the first one to say - "it didn't work for me when I took the Flintstones"... but until that time - going to do what I can to stay on program as best I can according to my surgeons expereince and expertise and hope to rock this RNY like so many of you have done!!! A good friend who is 5 years post op was told to take children's chewables from day one and she has done great... I really think our bodies all respond differently and what works for one may be a disaster for another.
So here's to all of us and the unique perspectives we bring to this journey.

I couldnt agree more with your post! And FYI, I am also taking Flinstones and was told to do so by every doctor that I saw. So far it's working, but we'll just have to wait and see, huh? :-) And I also have protein ice cream every night to top off my protein intake and relax. I love the stuff and with each time I make it it just gets better and better! :-)
Great post!! I couldn't agree more. I have been around this board reading all the various posts regarding each person's journies and they are just that....individual journies!!! Like you stated some are veteran's and some are newbies but all info should be taken at face value and if there is a question/concern that needs a medical opinion or intervention then it should be directed to your medical team...no disrespect intended..not random strangers on a WLS forum. We can all offer suggestions and speak only to what OUR situations are.
I know these people mean well and are just trying to help. I would personally never use Flintstones, but I might have if such a stink wasn't made about them... so I am grateful for the advice... but if you want to and these were your instructions, so be it.
It gets a bit frustrating when people always say "follow your surgeon's plan.... EXCEPT for this thing or that thing".
Or sometimes you ask a question and 8 people reply "follow your surgeons plan". DUH...
Sometimes I ask a question just because I wonder what the answer is!
