My favorite drink is a soda water with a piece of cut up lime in it.  I see you can't drink this post surgery.  Is it forbidden forever?

the bubbles are up to you. for me it causes too much gas and pain for me to care to drink it. but others are fine with the bubbles. just dont try too early and try it at home so if its not a good mix...

wait until your surgery is completely healed.  adding carbonation and acid from the lime too early can cause more problems.

I was told it was a forever no no, and since soda was a trigger for me, I have stayed away from everything carbonated... I don't miss it.

I did start using true lemon or true lime on cold water and I love it.

I was told no carbonation EVER again, because the bubbles and air can stretch out your pouch and cause gas pain. Decide if it is worth it before you start back in on that habit!

Yes, you can stretch your pouch if you guzzle an entire can and let allllll the fizzies  build up over and over again.... a sip here and there will NOT stretch your pouch. Think of it this way...if you put a tablespoon of soda water in a tiny waterballoon and close it..even shake it up...is it gonna stretch that balloon? No. If you put the entire contents of  the bottle or can into that balloon..then YES it will stretch it. If you're going to have it I suggest to keep it sugar free and keep it to a minimum as well as waiting till you are competely healed and no longer feel the addiction to the carbonation. Chances are you won't even want it after surgery.  I've tried soda (sugar free ) and it just doesnt taste the same and the "blah" taste it has to me now isnt worth messing up my allowances of carbs and calories. Better spent on a yummy cracker with turkey and cheese in my opinion.

No, you CANNOT stretch your pouch with carbonated drinks, not even with an entire can!!!!!! Come on, folks, let's use some logic and basic rules of physics here... the balloon in yoiur analogy has only ONE opening but your pouch has TWO... it is open at both ends. There is no way for enough pressure to build up in what is essentially a funnel to stretch it even if someone guzzled soda... and since non-WLS folks dont; generally guzzler entire cans of soda, I doubt that anyone WITH a RNY is going to try it.

Also, diet soda has no carbs OR calories, so there IS no messing up your "allowances"if you choose to drink it. If you choose not to drink it, for WHATEVER reason(s) you have, that's great... but please think logically about what you are saying to others about THEIR choice.

Edited to add that this is not meant as a personal attack on you... and it probably sounds like it, btu I cannot figure out how to re-word it. I just get completely fed up with people in general being so illogical about the soda issue and just unblinkingly repeating things that make no sense. You would think that soda along made us all obese!

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Well you COULD stretch the pouch..... if you sewed it shut on both ends with carbonated stuff inside.

Thank you!

My surgeon allows soda. I can count on one hand the amount of sodas that I have drank, but you would think I committed an unholy sin the way people comment when they see you. I dilute mine with water and ice to cut down on the carbonation, but so many tell me that I'm not allowed. I usually tell them that each surgeon is different and that mine does. They can even go on their website for the nutrition and see it for themselves.

I understand the weight loss surgery and triggers, but seriously!!! Everything is okay..in moderation.

Well said!!!
