I agree with Lora:
The original poster is in the MAJORITY of RNY folks (despite what some surgery war pundits like to post).

70+% of RNYers DON'T dump.......EVER.
65% do NOT regain their weight
80% can eat nearly (or everything) they did PRE-OP (If they wanted to!)

Most heal very rapidly with great outcomes. I get my data from REAL WORLD meetings with RNY paitients (most of whom are 3+ year veterans).

Also on message boards, the people who have problems are the ones who are going to post (complications and complaints).  Most people do NOT just make posts of" I'm doing great, not a thing wrong, losing fine...Labs all good..K'thnx bye!"

Those 70% of RNYers are out and about in the REAL world having fun, living and doing stuff!

Today I was at the YMCA with my son for 2 hours, then we went to Ekerts for pick your own Strawberries (picked 2 flats of strawberries) which was around an hour and a half of exercise. He bought a Butterfinger Malted Shake, (I had about 1/4 th of it, sharing it with him, because I was naught and had forgotten my beef jerkey for food!)

Had to run to the Base to get some meds and take care of business, etc, Got home, we made pulled pork authentic tacos (and today I felt like a crunch shell and had one! Yum!)

In my WLS Support group that meets monthly, the 20 people I have met from the same surgical practice I went to...(and NO, this support group is NOT done by my surgical practice, theirs is too far away, so this was done by a local group of WLS paitients...There are 70 members in the group but usually only around 10-20 show up monthly).

We have Bandsters, Mainly RNY people and one DS (and he is the one who seems to have the most complications...Was done in another state and not by our surgeons).  In fact the BIGGEST "complication" or problem with veterans??? WEIGHT REGAIN because we CAN eat anything!!!!!!!!!! We ARE healthy. And do NOT dump.

Staying Hydrated and being diligent about making a new HEALTHY lifestyle is the hardest part of WLS....
I don't care WHAT kind of surgery you have had...Crap IN = Weight regain and crap out.
DS folks love to tout eating bacon and steak (for some reason they think RNY and band folks can't) guess what? I was eating BACON and STEAK at 5 weeks out when I was cleared for regular food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yes all those exclamation points are intentional).

ALL the members of our REAL LIFE WLS group have no problems with most foods (the bandsters seem to have the most problems with meats and some RNYers with milk/lactose...The one DS fella is totally lactose intolerant and is always having intestinal ulcers!)

As Lora said....You, and I are actually in the Majority. From my WLS group I have mentioned this site...Some have checked it out. but I am the only one who posts out of 20+ people...

That means in the southern IL area, nearly 70 are NOT posting! and 70 are doing GREAT with very little complications. Now add that up for the whole state of IL, now add it up for the country..

It means that nearly 65-85% of WLS people are doing just fine thank you and having no serious problems (or easily corrected ones).

Best of luck and enjoy your journey! Congrats on being NORMAL! :) Yeah!

Warmly,
Jackie

I'm 13 days out today and I feel FANTASTIC! I have been walking on my elliptical and having relations with my husband since day 7. I haven't been eating much, but I haven't had any problems with any of the food I have eaten. Except for the scars and never being hungry, I feel like I haven't even had surgery. In fact, I think that having the surgery has been the easiest part so far! It's the mind games my head is playing that mess me up.

I have to jump on as a "normal" WLS patient too. Everything said by above posters fits me as well.

Take care, you are not alone :)

No problems here.  I've gotten "stuck" a couple of times, due to eating too fast and not chewing good enough. Dumped a couple of times, but have learned my lesson, too much sugar or fat will do that to me.
