Presurgery bloodwork
When I had my blood work done my Vitamin D was low also. Mine was 5. I asked the Dr if this was serious just because I really dont want to have to take one more pill. He said that it is serious and that a vitamin D deficiency can cause you to have a hump in your back. He said that with RNY the portion of the intestines where Vitamin D is absorbed is bypassed so I have to take vitamin D. Of course I dont want a hump in my back so I will be taking the pills.

My vit D was low pre-op so was on prescription D (50000 IU every 2 weeks). Post-op it's still low (27.3) so am on D3. There is an important difference in the TYPE of D you take for supplimentation. We don't absorb the D in oil so need to take dry D3 - which is not prescription and can be ordered many places, Vitalady, Netrition, etc. Levels that low are putting you at risk for osteopenia, Ricket's .... not good things!
