Low Carb Pre-Op Diet?

Has anyone on here only had to do a 14 day low carb pre-op diet? Most people have said they had to do Optifast or a 2 week liquid diet. I'm glad my surgeon doesn't require that, but I'm curious as to why he doesn't. Any ideas?  (I am supposed to do 2 days of clear liquids before surgery.)

on my pre op food plan i was able to eat..but it was pretty restrictive...too am glad that i got to eat on that phase as just the day before surgery i had to have liquids and then the first day in hospital was liguids..so that was hard enought for me...i cam home from surgery on the purees phase too..so was glad i got to eat when i came home....and have been eating since...i do notice that i am loosing slower than some of those that are on the liquid phases...but i am so thankul that i get to eat....and mine pre op food plan was only about 11 days as my surgery date...but i had been steadly loosing weight since dec, 10th, my surgery was on april 4th...i am down 48 pounds since dec 10th...and 29 of that is since surgery...
have a great day

I did low carb, low fat under 1000 calories/day for the pre-op diet.  I didn't optifast because I was lactose intolerant.  I also did clear liquids 2 days before surgery as well.  I lost 16 pounds with it.

I had to do 6 months of low carb pre-op diet and 2 weeks of full liquids preop in addition to few days of clear liquids right before surgery. Different surgeons have different plans in conjunction with the nutritionists they work with but the most standardized recommendations come from ASMBS.

I had two weeks to lose 5-15lbs. They didn't really tell me how to do it. I drank 2 protein shakes and had one very small meal. I lost 14lbs. Then I was on clear liquids 3 days before surgery.

The low carb diet is meant to help shrink your liver to make the surgery safer.  My surgeon puts us on the same thing.  We don't have the clear liquids though.    Every surgeon does things differently :)
