My surgeon/nutritionist team recommends 500-700 calories daily for the first 2 months. I would aim to stick to it. 1200 calories is what's recommended about a year out.

Feel good--

Are you hungry or are you just eating to eat? I ask this because I don't have hunger pains nor do I have a satisfied feeling after I eat. I talked to my phycologist in my group meeting about this last week and she said for many it's very normal and usually comes back at about month three (for most) but it's VERY important that you are training your brain to eat less. It's all mental and you CAN overcome it. If you don't go to a support group I recommend you do. I really enjoy being in a room full of people who had surgery the same week I did by the same surgeon as well.

Wow everyone, I don't know what to say. Either I have had the worst surgery ever or I'm just very good at listening to my body.

I am 9 days out and up to now all I've had are red popsicles (sugar free), Sugar free powerade and my chicken soup protein drinks. And i ahve to FORCE myself to have them.

The absolute only thing I feel right now is thirst, which is why I am sipping all darn day. How is it that I have absolutely no desire to eat at all? Is this normal? Should I be 'wanting' to eat? I thought we eat when your stomach feels hungry? And all the nerves were shredded to pieces, so I'm sure mine aren't working yet.

Am I normal, or have I compltely not understood this whole process? If anyone can give me some help, I'd appreciate it.

even though there is no "normal", I think your experience is more normal than the people who are eating so much

I went about 3 months with zero appetite. Enjoy it while you can! :)  Some people go a lot longer than that, some less.

You are doing the right thing focusing on staying hydrated right now. That is the most important thing.

YOU are doing things right. Lots of times the posts on OH focus on things that are wrong cause that is when people freak out. Follow your doctor's plan and I think you are going to do very very well!

Whew. Thanks Judy. My Nutritionist even said... 'really' and I go... yeah, I am just NOT hungry. And I proceeded to ask her why some people are hungry and some are not (The ever so popular: I am DYING to get off this pureed food and back onto regular food) and she explained that it's 'head' hunger, either boredom, or habit, or emotional, and she told me I was doing a fantastic job of reading my body.

I asked if I should FORCE myself into the different stages and she said.. no.. you can take longer on everything if you want, it's just up to you. We set those stages so people won't go EARLIER than those days... no problems going later... JUST GET IN YOUR PROTEIN AND WATER.

Which is what I am striving to do. :) Thanks for your vote of confidence.

sounds like you have a good nutritionist. For me, I just got to a point where I missed chewing. lol

So I froze ice cube trays of crystal light and made slushies.

Ooooh, great summertime idea!!! That must be refreshing! Give me a crystal light slushy with an umbrella in it and sit me down by the pool! :) Then let me roast :) [Slight 'pig' pun] HAHAHAHA.

I can't define normal, we are all different.

Forcing yourself I DO get.  Not to be mean to those eating large amounts early out, it shocks me though that I see so many newbies pushing the envelope.  Many things play into how much we can eat during this journey including how large our surgeons made our pouches.

I still have to push myself to eat.  The restriction Iis still there.

Listen to your body making sure you are getting in enough protein.  Don't push the envelope, I honestly believe the reason I've not had any significant regain and I have such good restriction is I followed my plan.  I can count on one hand how many times I ate to discomfort and I also credit me NEVER getting the foamies or throwing up (3 times on beef roast) so little is working hard to establish good eating habits.

your guts have not healed yet. Are you allowed to be eating food yet? I know every doctor is different, but trust me, when they heal, you will feel a lot more restriction and if you aren't following the plan, you should call the dietician and make an appointment.

They want you to succeed and it is an emotional ride.

So, yes 1200 is too much. 2. Ditch the scale, you will drive yourself crazy. Most of us lose in a stepping stone pattern - nothing nothing nothing, big loss, nothing nothing nothing....

you can go crazy

call your dietician. It sounds like it would do you good to touch base and develop a food plan
