I thought my doctor was the highest rated surgeon but I didnt get this kind of information from him or any packet from their office.  It is what it is.  If Kelly refers to the asmbs then Im going to have to believe her posts.  It makes sense.

Go read the ASMBS recommendations for yourself.  Don't take my word for it.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

Just click on his name under my surgery date\avatar. He is on the board of ASMBS as well. No worries about the confrontation, but I do think it is a bit worrisome that folks dole out medical advice here when instead we should be urging people to follow the advice of their doctor.

I'm not doling out medical advice.  I'm educating people about the ASMBS recommendations.  I wonder why your doc disagrees with the ASMBS recommendations if he is on their board.

Interesting that the "point" system the Consumers’ Research Council of America uses does not even include the number of surgeries performed.  So, theoretically, as long as a surgeon graduated from a prestigious school (even if (s)he just BARELY graduated), has been a surgeon for a number of years (not necessarily doing WLS!), and pays the dues for a bunch of professional memberships, (s)he can be a "top surgeon".  Curious.

I appreciate the info, though.

As Kelly said, there is a difference in people giving medical advice and just telling people what the ASMBS says.  I would think that your surgeon, who is on their board, would follow their guidelines, but apparently not when it comes to the calcium.

In your first response you seem to have done a little doling out yourself.

Please do not discourage Kelly from advising us. I have learned very much from the information that she post. She doesnt just post from her own thoughts and idea's. What she post are FACTS. As she said you may go read them yourself.

No one is saying that your doctor is ill advising you. She merely states that your new system WILL NOT absorb the calcium carbonate. It's true. I did go read the facts.

Don't worry, I'm not getting discouraged.  If people don't want to read the info I post, that's fine.  They don't have to open my posts at all.  I will post the info for those that want it because I like teaching.

If  he is on the board of the ASMBS then he should know better. They are THE authority, the ones that set the standards; and yet, your surgeon is not following the standard of care as set forth by the his peers.

Strange!

For what it's worth, I've heard excellent things about your surgeon.  My surgeon is also one of the "top" surgeons in the NY area and was the first surgeon to perform laparoscopic RNY in my area and also taught other surgeons his techniques.

That having been said, this means we were in excellent hands from a surgical standpoint.  However, that does NOT mean our surgeons are experts in nutrition.  That is why there is so much variation in what info RNY patients are being given by their surgeons.
