Pre-Op Diet Success/Meditation Advice

I've been on my pre-op low carb diet for one week today. I've lost 11 lbs! I can see how you start to second guess yourself a bit and think, "Well, if I can do this on my own, why have surgery?" But I know the answer is that I can probably lose another 20 lbs or so on my own...but its just not ENOUGH. (and I'll just put it all back and and more)

I'm excited for my surgery which is on June 16th. I'm ready for a happier, healthier me!

Does anyone have any advice about pre-surgery meditation or anxiety relief exercises?

You said my favorite word - "advice"..... oh, boy do I have advice!
Right before surgery, as in when you're in that waiting room before they wheel you off to the OR, have a mantra that will help you stay sane. I was nearly jumping out of my skin with so many different emotions, so I just had my husband talk to me about anything but the surgery.
Some mediation mantras that may be useful: "I'm worth this", some variation on the Serenity Prayer, "I am beautiful", "breathe in peace, breathe out stress",  etc. Just really depends on where you want to go mentally, imagine yourself there, and repeat!
I'm a big fan of deep breathing or diaphramatic breathing. Also Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Guided Imagery. All are self-help techniques that you can train yourself to do (but really great if you have a professional to help!).
Good luck!!

I'm a big fan of it too! I'm hoping I can psych myself up to be calm and serene before surgery. I think this will be a huge benefit to me. Thanks for your help. :)

Hi!  I'm having surgery on the 15th of June.........1 week away.........I am also on a low carb diet.......I have lost 7 lbs...........so I just wanted to say your doing fantastic.  Tonight is my hubby's birthday, so I am going to sway a little bit from the program.  LOL  With the low carb diet my dr has me taking 1 T. lemon juice w/1/4 water to shrink my liver.  I have been doing that for a week today!!  Seems to help..........don't feel so bloated.  I wish you the best and I'll see you on the loser's bench!!  -Holly

I did lose weight on a pre-op diet (my wife was going to have RNY but cancelled, and I did the pre-op  liquid diet with her).  I lost 20 pounds in May/June, had it all back by August.    That's what really told me I could not lose weight on my own.

Those of us who had surgery know what you are going through.   I had plenty of doubts, even more after I had a leak complication.   When I was in the hospital recovering from my 3 surgeries in 3 days, I wrote some affirmations about how everything would be better.  Guess what ?  It is better. I hve lost 100 pounds and I can take long walks and have lots of energy and fit in normal clothes.  And every so often I look at the affirmations I wrote on the back of a hospital report paper to remind me how far I have come.
