Getting ready for my surgery this week!! Few Questions!!
I didn't use anything but my deoderant and cell phone to text...didn't feel like talking.
What I wish I had...
ear plugs
some kind of pillow for my tail bone
a cane...it was a big help when I got home for some support especially when sitting up and getting up..and TMI...to lean on when wiping :)
Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I had surgery on May 23rd, and because of my "white coat" anxiety, I had never really been to, and certainly had never stayed in a hospital before. I didn't really know what to bring, so I packed the following:
- iPad2 tablet
- Kindle reader
- iPhone
- Robe
- Crocs (to walk in without slipping)
- 3 changes of clothes (one for each day)
- 3 pairs of socks
- Sneakers (to wear home)
- Toiletries (including shower essentials, toothbrush, etc.)
- Blistex for my lips (which I use all the time anyway)
- Magazines
- Game books (word search, soduku, etc.)
- A framed picture of my wife and three kids
- A pillow and a small blanket I use at home
At the end of my three day stay at the hospital, I used the following:
- Blistex (all three days, but especially on the first day because you aren't allowed to drink and your lips are dry)
- Toothbrush (only on days two and three because no liquid was allowed in my mouth on day one)
THAT'S IT!! I never even looked in my luggage and never needed anything. You don't get a ton of down time because of all the nurses, techs, Dr's, and hematologists coming in and out all the time, so the little down time I got, I spent walking or sleeping.

Holly, when I had the revision surgery I took chapstick, hairbrush, toothpaste, toothbrush, change of clothes to go home in.
First surgery I took house coat, too much crap. This time I used the house coat they provided, I already had a spirometer so I brought my own from last surgery.
Remember as soon as you can you want to be up walking the halls

Hi Holly, Well its finally here. Good luck, My surg. was in the morning and I was able to leave the next morning. They keep you up all night sipping walking and peeing. I noticed some people have to stay more then one night and even have a drain. I didn't have anything like that. I only had my cell phone so I could call my husband to pick me up. Their gown is fine and slipper socks worked good.

This is what I used for the 4 days I was in the hospital:
Chapstick
Cell phone and charger
Light weight robe
Brush
Deoderant
Pillow for you tummy on the ride home...bumps in the road hurt a little.
I wore loose sweats and a baggy t-shirt when I checked in and wore the same thing when I went home.
My best advice is get up and start walking as soon as you can, as often as you can. I felt so much better after I started walking.
