If you could do it over

ok so here are some questions to ask yourself

1. do you lose weight on diets or is your metabolism screwed up? If you do, the sleeve with no malabsorption may be ok for you

2. Are you diabetic? DS and RNY are better against diabetes than a restrictive surgery only

3. I don't have any of the studies but go over the DS board and ask. Apparently African American women have a harder time losing weight than Caucasian women. I have no idea why but there are studies.  You have 180 pounds to lose. I know rerouting your insides is scary, it should be, it is a last resort, but you may want to consider the DS, the RNY might not even have enough oomph for you

Best of luck. I had people stopping in to see me the day before my surgery begging me to change to a lap band so I'm sorry to be doing kind of the same thing to you!

RNY on 11/15/10 with
I would definitely still have the RNY..love it!  I need the limits of what I can eat..I don't trust myself to be able to eat anything, just in small amounts.  Fortunately, not taking NSAIDS isn't an issue for me as I have a platelet disorder and can't take them anyway so I'm used to that.  I am very faithful about taking my supplements and I just know I have to continue to be. I know it is for life, but that is a commitment I have made so I need to stick to it.  I feel SO much better, more energy etc....it's worth it.  I am concerned about the reactive hypoglycemia which I haven't developed yet.  I already eat protein snacks frequently, carrying things with me all the time...so I'll continue to do that just in case!

NO! I would stay with the RNY

I could have had any of the surgeries and had done my research.  The RNY has allowed me to make the changes I needed in my life and do it in a time frame that made things like exercise doable.

I have suffered a number of complications but even sitting in the ER or Hospital getting a transfusion I knew I had made the right choice and would do it again knowing I would go through what I have.

I have been able to change my life in many aspects and now consider myself normal and healthy.  Sure I don't eat the way normal people do but many normal people don't or can't do somethings I do and wouldn't consider trying things I have planned.

My Marriage is better, I am a better father I set an example for my Whole family including cousins and such.  I am more confident and open.

I have been giving a life and giving one pretty quickly.
