You don't need to have any last meals. After surgery you'll eventually be able to eat whatever you crave but in smaller amounts. It's really not a big deal. Eat normally.

Hi Kim, don't be so hard on yourself. One thing I l know for sure about this surgery is that you MUST have your head in the right place to be successful. Before I started my pre-op diet, during orientation, many of the staff members were talking about having 'the last meal', and what that meant. I didn't understand at first. All I knew is that I have had 43 yeas of last meals, and good intentions, and I'll start Monday kinda days. I left the office that day, and remained on the 1300 calorie diet the doctor put me on while I waited approval. The night before I started my liquid only pre-op diet, I decided ( for me), not to celebrate with food, or eat in a panic, like I'd never have certain food items ever again. the 14 day pre-op diet was ok for me. The first three days were the hardest ( headaches and fatigure) due to me detoxing off of sugars and carbs. I am 11 days post-op and having this surgery is the best gift I've ever given myself. I know down the road I will be able to eat most anything I want, just in moderation. I'm an emotional eater. The surgery is NOT going to fix that. I have to fid other outlets to express my feelings. Food is no longer an option.  Just think Kim... after the surgery you will be on liquids only for almost 4 weeks. Now is a great time to test different protein drinks, and to take care of you. Don't blur this moment of your life with food. I know the anticipation and excitement of your date is coming up. Find something else to channel your emotions. All of the food is what got me here in the first place. Maybe you too. We are all doing this together! I'm proud of you for reaching out and asking for support. Good luck and let's keep in touch!

Hope your surgeon isn't like mine, he flat out would say if you gain any weight you were at risk of having your surgery canceled. This included office visits.

You can't rely on the surgery to make you do things right, you jager to do them right. Take time and focus then commit. It is for your safety and recovery. You had your last supper it is done now move forward.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughtful replies. I think this is the first step in my path of letting go of food as my primary coping mechanism for everything in my life. I can't tell you all how helpful it is to be able to hear from people who know where I'm coming from. Really....thank you.
