Thanks! I'm looking for something in early August (due to other things going on right now). but yep, either a 5k or a 10K in August depending on how I'm doing by then. Might even get my son to do a 5k with me!

Let me know how that July 4th 10K goes!

A couple things you can do to keep the motivation going.

1) C25K  a lot of people have been successful with this program.  Very staright forward interval program that progresses you from being a non runner to a 5k runner.

2) Find a race locally about 12 weeks out and sign up for it now.  This gives you something to work towards.  Don't worry about your first time or even if you run the whole thing.  The reward is in the finish.

3) Logging app  use an app to log your workouts so you can see your improvements many of these apps will post your runs to FB, this will annoy your non exercising friends and give you some pleasure!  I use daily mile but have used others and know people that use others.  I like daily mile because you can link to your friends and see how you stack up.

4)Don't worry about your performance in regards to others.  Being a good runner takes time and effort.  Like I said before don't worry about being able to run a 5K in a sub 30, worry about finishing it how ever you can then focus on improving from there.

5) The Exercise and Fitness forum is a great group of people to get tips from. We have a daily workout thread. Don't let some peoples workouts intimidate you, as your 1 mile is just as meaningful as someone elses 10.

6) Listen to your body!
