When were you released to do stomach exercises?  Just had my 6 month check up and my Dr. said to continue holding off because he did not want me to get a hernia.  How long until I wont get a hernia????  Or is this something I will have to be cautious about for ever?????? Thanks for your replies...OH is the best!

I started exercising 1 week out, including tummy crunches. Only limitation was no weights over 15# for a month. Had RNY, gallbladder removal and repaired hiatel hernia.....have had no problems. I think its a matter of easing into the exercising (low weights, low reps, low time doing aerobics) should not hurt -- increase a little every few days - don't do too much at once.  Be smart. listen to your body, thats what my dr said.  If it starts to hurts Stop! But do something everyday.

What a journey...I will make it!!!

Complete clearance at 8 weeks.  I would question this.  You are no more likely to get a hernia at 6 months then you will be at 12 months or 12 years.  Core workouts are crucial in how your body carries it's weight and being that your weight can change so quickly having a good core can help your body adapt to it's new shape.

I would seriously start a conversation with your doctor on this point.  Do research and get real data not just opinions from people here on the benefits and dangers of exercise post-op.
