What to take for chronic pain besides Tylenol or Ultram???

Elavil (generic is Amitryptiline-sp?) is an anti-depressant that does wonders for pain. Helps with insomnia too.

I wish I had a suggestion.  I have a knee that needs replaced (but that I am trying to delay replacing), and I take a combination of Tramadol (Ultram) and Vicodin.  I do have some concerns about dependence/addiction if I don't get the courage to do the knee surgery relatively soon.

Have you looked into any of the pain patches? My PCP said he didn't think they would be appropriate for my knee pain so I don't really know much about them... but it migth be worth looking into for back pain.

I've got Lidoderm patches and they have done absolutely diddly for my back pain.  They are a total waste of time, at least in my experience...

I also suffer chronic back pain. My pain specialist has jut switched me to morphine patches. They are WONDERFUL. They deliver trandermally so they bypas the stomach so you do not have to worry about not absorbing the medication.  Hope this helps

Thank you, Susan....I was going to try them..are they the fentynl patch?? (sp)   My pain dr and family dr do not agree on the use of narcotics...opiod based... But makes sense that they would work for sure....my insurance doesn't cover them though..let me know  if that is what they are...thanks again!!

during my bout with kidney stones I had my percocet/oxycodone dosage UPPED to 10/325 instead of 5/325.  They seem to help ALOT... then when I went in ER they gave me shots of dilaudid.

Well my family dr said that I can NEVER take opiods again...he said since I was ADDICTED to the oxycodone that I never ever can take it unless under extreme cir****tances...So now I don't know what to do...
