What I didn't know before Surgery that I wish someone had told me

1. Stay off the scale.  The scale is NOT your best friend.

2. You WILL stall in the beginning of your journey.  Probably around 3-7 weeks post op.

That you may be to out of it right after the operation to advocate for yourself. Have someone with you who is willing to speak up for your needs as they arise. In my case, I was miserably nauseated for several hours after surgery, repeatedly dry heaving. I wasn't aware enough to get the attention of someone to give me anti nausea meds. My wife wasn't aware I didn't need to be so sick, so she never asked for me. I was so sore from all that needless yuckiness

Complications happen.  Even if you follow instructions to the T.

You have to force yourself to eat and drink.  I am 13 weeks out and still not hungry.

No questions are dumb.  Ask, ask, and ask again.  Don't worry about bothering your doc or his office.

The only thing I wish I would have known was that you really NEED a PILLOW to support your belly on the car ride home.  Cars bounce around a lot and so do bellies.  Not a great combination two days after surgery.

The nausea. its unbearable. I am nauseus 24/7. Meds dont help. I cant eat Anything. SOmetimes I cant even keep water down. Kinda stinks.
